Session 33620: Clone Oracle Databases Online in Seconds with Oracle Clonedb and DirectNFS

Description

Abstract

One of the most common challenges every Oracle customer faces today is the time in creating and maintaining copies of Oracle production data for multiple purposes, such as online recovery, test and development or maintenance. This session will discuss leveraging storage based snapshots with Oracle’s CloneDB feature to quickly copy a multi-terabyte Oracle production database in seconds. Several use cases will be reviewed leveraging the Oracle Database DirectNFS Client and cloned feature over unified storage in single-instance and cluster/grid deployments. Best practices will be provided for managing capacity and recovery during Oracle replication, as well as how to establish user access policies for replication management.

Attendees will understand how to perform Oracle replication significantly faster and more efficiently with the combined use of storage replication and Oracle clonedb. The benefits of unified storage for Oracle production and test and development will be discussed including leveraging the Oracle DirectNFS feature in the Oracle database. Detailed results of joint EMC, Oracle testing will be shared, including use cases for cloning production databases, for development and test in just seconds.
