Issue:

      Scenario

CentOS SVM upgrade available from the Support site (SVM_OS_Patching_package_*.zip/patch_script).

      Either Gateway-orchestrated or manual upgrade.

      Symptoms

One or more messages similar to the following appear.

tar: createrepo.tar: Wrote only 512 of 10240 bytes

tar: createrepo.tar: Cannot write: No space left on device

tar: iproute-4.11.0-14.el7_6.2.x86_64.rpm: Cannot open: No space left on device

tar: Unexpected EOF in archivetar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

Error Summary-------------Disk Requirements:  At least 1469MB more space needed on the / filesystem.

      Impact

      CentOS SVM cannot be upgraded.

Note that a failed upgrade process due to the issue described in this article is not expected to leave an SVM in an inconsistent state.

Cause:

      Root Cause

Insufficient space available on SVM root filesystem.
The upgrade process temporarily requires up to 3.5 times the disk space as the uncompressed patch_script package.
For example, a 450MB patch_script package file requires approximately 1600MB to be available on the SVM's root filesystem.

Resolution:

      Workaround

Free up space on the SVM's root filesystem and retry the upgrade.
