CLARiiON Plug-in for VMware

The EMC CLARiiON Plug-in  for VMware simplifies storage administration between the VMware Virtual  Center Server and CLARiiON storage systems. It offers end-to-end  management of storage related tasks including provisioning of  datastores, provisioning of raw device mapping (RDM) devices, and  array-based virtual machine replication.

The CLARiiON Plug-in for  VMware allows you to perform the following specific tasks directly from  the VMware vSphere client:

    • Provision new datastores  (VMFS volumes) or raw device mapping (RDM) volumes
    • Delete  existing datastores backed by CLARiiON CX4 storage
    • Create  virtual machine replicas using array-based replication services
    • The plug-in also gives you the option to  publish the replicated virtual machines to a View Manager

For EMC CLARiiON customers with an active Powerlink account, the Plug-in can be downloaded here:

Celerra Plug-in for VMware

The EMC Celerra Plug-in for  VMware enables VMware administrators to provision NFS datastores,  de-duplicate virtual machines, and execute array-based compression and  array-based cloning of virtual machines. The cloning functions include  Full Clones (copies) as well as Fast Clones (snaps) of Virtual Machine  Disk (VMDK) files. VMware administrators can use the plug-in to manage  Celerra storage in VMware environments by using an existing vSphere  Client user interface.

VMware administrators can use the tool to:

    • Provision new NFS storage.
    • Extend existing NFS storage.
    • Compress virtual machines in NFS  datastores.
    • Clone virtual machines in NFS  datastores.
    • Fast Clones support (snaps) of  virtual machines
    • Full Clones support (copies) of  virtual machines

Key features of the Celerra Plug-in for VMware include:

DHSM setup script - Includes a script to allow users to easily set up Distributed Hierarchical Storage Management (DHSM).

Integration with  VMware View - Includes  native support for VMware View. With this new feature, users can integrate existing Full Clone and Fast Clone support with VMware View.  Users also receive the benefit of Refresh Desktops support in VMware  View.

VMware Style Wizards – Users can now access the plug-in features using the familiar VMware style wizard GUI interface.

Celerra AntiVirus Agent scanning - Celerra AntiVirus Agent (CAVA) scanning is now disabled by default. This setting is a best practice and the default is an unselected checkbox for Celerra  AntiVirus on the Advanced Options dialog. Testing has shown that by disabling AV scanning when provisioning storage for virtual machines,  the overall performance can be improved.

View space usage - Users can now view their disk usage change after running compression.
