Issue:

During the upgrade to DD OS 5.7 or later, IPMI over DHCP is disabled in the BIOS.

    Following the first reboot post-upgrade, these changed take effect in the BIOS, thus disabling IPMI over DHCP if active - forcing the system to use a static IP.

      sysadmin@DataDomain# ipmi config bmc0a dhcp
      Check BMC enable in BIOS setting before configuring port bmc-eth0.

    IPMI settings post upgrade; pre-reboot:

    IPMI Show Config
    ----------------
    Console: serial
    Port       Enabled   DHCP   IP Address       Netmask            Gateway
    --------   -------   ----   --------------   ----------------   --------------
    bmc0a      yes       yes    10.10.xx.xx*     255.255.xxx.0*     10.10.xx.x*
    --------   -------   ----   --------------   ----------------   --------------
    * Value from DHCP

    IPMI settings post upgrade; following reboot:

    IPMI Show Config
    ----------------
    Console: serial
    Port       Enabled   DHCP   IP Address    Netmask       Gateway
    --------   -------   ----   -----------   -----------   -------
    bmc0a      yes       no     0.0.xxx.xxx   0.0.xxx.xxx   0.0.x.x
    --------   -------   ----   -----------   -----------   -------
    * Value from DHCP

Cause:

DD OS code has been changed in 5.7 upwards to disable IPMI over DCHP at the BIOS level to resolve security vulnerabilities.
    Changes to the BIOS will only take effect following a system reboot and not during the upgrade process initially.

Resolution:

Recommendation is to set IPMI to static IP.
    If you wish to continue using IPMI over DCHP, please contact Data Domain support.
