Issue:

When running the "Hosts Not Backed Up" report against an Avamar node, virtual machine (VM) clients (hosts) are not showing on the report. Only physical clients (hosts) are appearing on the report.

Cause:

The Data Protection Advisor product is functioning as designed.

The current report design does not include VM clients.

Resolution:

This is an Enhancement Request (RFE) currently being considered for Data Protection Advisor.
The RFE is for a new system template that will show both physical and VM clients in Avamar which don't have a successful backup.

    Workaround:

There is a work around available for this issue. The data source "Virtual Hosts without Backup" can be used in a new Report to display this information.
While specific instructions on creating a new report are not included here, in general one can create a report, as below.

  •         Create a copy of the Hosts Not Backed Up report
  •
  •         Add the Virtual Hosts without Backup data source to Report
  •
  •         Use Point in Time as Start Time and use End Time
  •

Note that for DPA to have information on VM clients, the virtual environment (vCenter) must have already been discovered in DPA.
Also before VM clients can be reported here, they must be known to Avamar (at least backed up once in the past).
