The user is trying to FREE allocated tracks of persistent allocated CKD devices in order to delete them. The devices have been successfully unmapped from all the mainframe LPARs.
    All the volumes are thin devices as they reside on a VMAX3 and are bound to the default resource pool SRP_1.
    The user receives the following messages when they try to FREE the allocated tracks: ' All the volumes have to be bound Thin volumes'
    The issue occurs on both Unisphere V8.2 and V8.3.  The microcode of the VMAX3 is  5977.952.892

Software error

    The devices can be successfully freed and deleted using the following SYMCLI commands;

  1.         symdev -sid <SymmID> free <SymDevName> -all
  3.         symdev -sid <SymmID> delete <SymDevName>
      Note:  After the FREE command has been issued this starts a background process in the VMAX which may not complete immediately due to the workload on the VMAX at the time.  The volumes need to be queried to ensure all the tracks have been unallocated before the delete command is issued otherwise it will fail.
