DPA generates alerts for "Agent is down" where the agent is running

Issue:

 

 

DPA is generating "Agent is down" alerts for agents we know are up and running.                                                           

 

 

Cause:

 

 

   

      The "Agent is Down" alert works by looking at the agent status requests.     
      Every agent configured in DPA runs an internal Agent Status request by default every 15 minutes (not configurable) and is mainly a heartbeat to say that the agent is alive and running.     
      The rule is triggered if an agent does not send a status message in the last 30 min, so in other words if the agent misses 2 agent status requests, an alert is created.     
      This can occur if the agent is busy or for some reason it cannot contact the DPA application server to send in the agent status report.     
     
     
     
     
     
          

                                                             

 

 

Resolution:

 

 

Increasing the Window size parameter on the "Agent is Down" Rule from 30 min to 1 hour will allow more time for the agent to send in a status report before generating an alert.   
   
    Policies -> Analysis Policies -> Analysis Policy Library tab -> Select the Policy containing the “Agent is down” rule   
    Click on the rule -> Select Edit Rule Parameters -> Enter 3600 seconds -> Click OK -> Click OK to save.
