Product:

NetWorker,NetWorker Family

Issue:

New installations of NetWorker 9 use the EMC Licensing Solution. If upgrading to NetWorker 9.x and you previously used the traditional model, you can continue to use that model, but you must still install the license server and set up the license file on the License Server and the NetWorker server (which can be the same machine).

Following warning message is seen in NMC:

CLP/ELMS server for basic license information found the following: 'Can't establish connection to the license server. Flexlm error -15'. Please check the network communication between NetWorker Server and License Server. Make sure the license server daemon is running. Or be sure the license files on both hosts have the same port number.

Cause:

This error means that the NetWorker Server is unable to detect the license server daemon/service, due to a configuration issue or a network communication issue.

On this case it was found that the license file was configured to use port 27001 instead of the default port 27000.

Change:

Upgrading to Networker 9.1.
    Configuring Networker License server.

Resolution:

  •         We need to confirm which License port is being used from the License file. ( edit the .lic file in a notepad )
  •
As the example below port 27001 was used:

    #############################################################
    # EMC License File
    # Activation Date:  Jan 25, 2018 07:48:12 AM

  •         We need to check which License port is currently being used by the NetWorker Server
  •
  •         To perform this check please execute the following steps:
  •

  1.         Shutdown the NetWorker Services.
  2.
  3.         Take a copy of the res folder.
  4.
  5.         Use nsradmin on the offline nsrdb to check the license port
  6.

    C:\Windows\system32>nsradmin -d “C:\Program Files\EMC NetWorker\nsr\res\nsrdb”

    NetWorker administration program.
Use the "help" command for help, "visual" for full-screen mode.
