After DPA upgraded from lower version to v6.4 or v6.5, it's observed that reports using data source "Backup Job Config" and "Backup Server Mapping" don't return all VM clients which are configured in Avamar server.
These missing clients are configured as VM Image backup clients.
The behavior is caused by planed modification to the Avamar Configuration request introduced in DPA 6.4 and 6.5. DPA reports and related data sources "Backup Job Config" and "Backup Server Mapping" are working as design,
By default, in DPA 6.4 and 6.5, "Backup Job Config" and "Backup Server Mapping" data sources will only show the VM Image Backup clients that being actively backed up in the last 30 days.
If the user would like to show all the VM clients configured in Avamar server, please complete following two steps:
1. Set option "Show potentially disabled VM clients and HLE conatiners" to "True" on Avamar Configuration request.
2. On the agent monitoring Avamar server, set "environment" variable "AGENT_AXION_DATASET_BACKUP_DAYS" to 18000 which can be used to override the default cut-off threshold of 30 days.
For Linux OS, add the below 2 lines into <install_path>/dpa/agent/etc/dpa.config file and restart agent service after it.
For Windows OS, to enable this environment variable a registry key named "AXION_DATASET_BACKUP_DAYS" will need to be created under the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\EMC\DPA\AGENT.
Open regedit, route to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\EMC\DPA\AGENT, right click to create "New" "String Value" with name "AXION_DATASET_BACKUP_DAYS“.
Modify registry key ”AXION_DATASET_BACKUP_DAYS“ with value "18000".
Restart DPA agent service after making this change.
After next successful run of Avamar configuration request, the user should see all the VM clients in the reports.
Please contact Dell EMC Technical Support for further details or information.
The variable name on Linux (AGENT_AXION_DATASET_BACKUP_DAYS) and Windows (AXION_DATASET_BACKUP_DAYS) are different.
If one cannot find the complete path of "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\EMC\DPA\AGENT" on Windows Agent host, i.e., the path ends up at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\EMC\", please right click to create new Key "DPA", then create new key "AGENT" under "..\DPA", then follow the steps in "resolution" part for Windows OS.
