How to perform an end-to-end connectivity test between ScaleIO and EMC Secure Remote Services (ESRS), via the AMS or ScaleIO Gateway.

Do not change the capacity utilization critical threshold during this test.

  •         Before commencing the test, confirm that the system does not contain any degraded capacity, and that the Capacity utilization above high threshold alert does not appear in the GUI.
  •
  •         Take note of the currently configured Capacity utilization high threshold, either using the ScaleIO GUI or the following command:
  •

scli --query_storage_pool --protect_domain_name <protection_domain_name> --storage_pool_name <storage_pool_name> | grep threshold

  •         Temporarily create a thin volume with 8 GB in size, in the same storage pool:
  •

scli --add_volume --protection_domain_name <protection_domain_name> --storage_pool_name <storage_pool_name> --size_gb 8 --thin_provisioned --volume_name esrsconntesttemp

  •         Check and make sure that there is used capacity in the storage pool. If not, create a thick volume.
  •
  •         Temporarily set the capacity utilization high threshold to zero (0) either using the GUI or the following command:
  •

scli --set_capacity_alerts_threshold --protection_domain_name <protection_domain_name> --storage_pool_name <storage_pool_name> --capacity_high_threshold 0

  •         Confirm the change when prompted.
  •
  •         Confirm in the GUI that the Capacity utilization above high threshold alert appears.
  •
  •         Wait one minute for the alert to be forwarded to the ESRS. Note that it is possible to confirm in the ScaleIO Gateway or AMS log, scaleio-trace.log, whether an alert was forwarded. The trace message contains the following text:
  •

In ESRSManager.busReceivedAlerts: Received alert

  •         Restore the original, previously noted, capacity utilization high threshold either using the GUI or the following command:
  •

scli --set_capacity_alerts_threshold --protection_domain_name <protection_domain_name> --storage_pool_name <storage_pool_name> --capacity_high_threshold <original high threshold>

  •         Confirm the change when prompted.
  •
  •         Remove the thin volume created
  •

scli --remove_volume --volume_name esrsconntesttemp

  •         Check whether a service request (SR) was automatically logged at the time the capacity utilization high threshold was set to zero. L2 have access to SRs which are opened via the DialHome channel (ESRS).
