If Redeploying ESRS on VxRail (reference https://support.emc.com/kb/496831):   

      If redeploying VxRail ESRS, the existing VxRail ESRS VE vm will need to be deleted prior to redeploying the OVF. To delete an existing ESRS VE vm prior to redeploying:*   
   
         
  •         Connect to vsphere web client, power of the VM, then right click and select "Delete from Disk"     
  •    
   
         
   
         
  •         Once the existing ESRS vm is deleted, need to download the cleanup_esrs.sh script from https://support.emc.com/kb/496831 and upload to the VxRail manager, chmod 777 the script and run it on VxRail Manager.     
  •    
   
    Deploy ESRS/VE on VxRail appliance   
         
  1.         Download VMDK and OVF for ESRS/VE. In release 3.5 or later, the files are located in the path /vmfs/volumes/EMCVBxxxxxxx-service-datastore1/images/esrs-original of node 1 and can be downloaded by browsing to the datastore in vcenter and downloading. In release 3.0, the files are located in the path /mystic/esrs of VxRail Manager Extension. The following screenshot only applies to  release 3.0 using sftp method for obtaining the files.

  1.         Login vSphere web client, switch to hosts and cluster page, right click the MARVIN-Virtual-SAN datastore to deploy the ESRS/VE.

  1.         Name the ESRS/VE, confirm the folder     
  2.    
          Please note the ESRS/VE should be named as "ESRS_VE.x86_64", which is the same as the default name when deploying the ESRS/VE via the GUI. Otherwise, there is a potential issue when operating on the VxRail Manager Extension (VxRail Manager in 3.5), which is that you will login to VME (VxRail Manager in 3.5) with blank page

  1.         Select Marvin-Virtual-SAN-Datastore as the destination for ESRS/VE.

  1.         Keep the vCenter Server Network as the destination network the ESRS/VE resides in.

  1.         Customize the configuration for ESRS/VE

      Note that the instruction about DNS is incorrect. In case of specifying two DNS, please use SPACE to separate instead of comma.      
      If you used comma, please log on to the VM and manually fix the /etc/resolv.conf file after deployment.       
        Future release may fix the text.
   
   
         
  1.         Complete the ESRS/VE manual deployment.

      *ESRS VE provisioning to the old Servicelink 5.3.9 backend was disabled per https://support.emc.com/kb/494728. Therefore, all ESRS VE 3.16 gateways MUST be configured to provision to the new ServiceLink 6.8 backend (v3.20 will provision to the version 3 backend without intervention and do not require this step). ESRS VE version 3.10 and prior can no longer be deployed and need to be upgraded:   
   
         
  •         To configure the ESRS VE v 3.16 to provision to the ESRS version 3 backend

      1. SSH as root to ESRS VE or connect to the vm console from vsphere web client and login as root and run the follow commands:   
   
         
  •         cd /opt/esrs/vappconfig     
  •      
  •         ./provisionserver.sh PROD3     
  •      
  •         reboot     
  •    
   
      This will configure the ESRS VE to provision to the ESRS v3 backend during the following provisioning process.   
   
     
      Activate ESRS/VE on ESRS web GUI   
   
         
  1.         Login ESRS/VE web GUI via https://<ESRS VM IP>:9443 with root and password defined in deployment, accept the EULA and set the password for admin.

  1.         Set the contact information.

  1.         Setup proxy configuration, if client need proxy to connect to EMC.

  3.         Run test for the network connectivity, if all green, click "Go to Provision".

  1.         Fill in the support account and password for provisioning, click "Next". * EMC Employees can enter their nt username along with their RSA passcode on this page to complete the provisioning.

  1.         Click "Email my access code" to generate the OTP, check the email box of the support account after a while, get the OTP and fill in the blank within 30 minutes, then click "Next".

  1.         Complete the ESRS/VE activation.

      Register the ESRS/VE via the hidden page on VxRail Manager Extension (VxRail Manager in 3.5).

  1.         First need to authenticate to the VxRail Manager Extension GUI before accessing the hidden page, so open a browser and log into the VxRail Manager Extension GUI.     
  2.      
  3.         Then login to the hidden page by entering the following url in the browser address bar :

      https://<VxRail Manager Extension IP>/esrs_support.html.     
      Fill in the blanks with appropriate data, and click the button "Register", if everything is OK, "ESRS is registered successfully now" will be returned as figured.     
      * EMC Employees can enter their nt username along with their RSA passcode on this page to complete the ESRS registration.

      1. First need to authenticate to the VxRail Manager Extension GUI before accessing the hidden page, so open a browser and log into the VxRail Manager GUI. *The page may take a few minutes to see the ESRS*     
     
      2. Then login to the hidden page by entering the following url in the browser address bar :      
      https://<VxRail Manager>/extension/esrs_support.html.      
      Fill in the blanks with appropriate data, and click the button "Register", if everything is OK, "ESRS is registered successfully now" will be returned as figured.     
     
      3.5 hidden page

      The hidden page can not be used in the upon releases, please use the following workaround to activate the ESRS VE     

        Exectute following command in VxRail Manager CLI:

  •           If the customer is using an exclamation “!” in the password, like in the account administrator@vsphere.com,  the command will fail..  escaping the "!" character with a backslash "\" will allow the command to run.  So if the password is ‘Passw0rd!’ then in the curl command above, it needs to be written ‘Passw0rd\!’       
  •        
  •           On this code level VxRail manager VM still requires Internet access to be able to validate the credentials used to activate ESRS

This procedure is only used when the normal ESRS/VE deployment via VxRail Manager failed.
