Platforms like Artemis DD4200,DD4500,DD7200 ; Apollo (DD9500)  Apollo+ (DD9800)  & EOS T2, T3, T4 (DD9300,DD9600), support many configurations with varying sizes, counts, and placement options for  Memory,  I/O SLICs , HDD or CPUs depending on licensing and what features are being used.

Examples of such variable features and configurations are:

  •         Expanded memory
  •
  •         Expanded storage capacity
  •
  •         Cache disks
  •
  •         Extended Retention
  •
  •         HA Active-Passive
  •
  •         LTR (Cloud Tier)
  •

Unsupported configurations can easily be encountered when I/O SLIC are borrowed from another Data Domain or EMC appliance.  Due to the increasing complexity of configurations, this article provides general troubleshooting procedures to identify and resolve unsupported hardware configurations on Data Domain Apollo platforms. Always consult the platform hardware guides for best practices and mandatory configuration guidelines.

Cause:

This example is for DD9500 with unsupported I/O SLICs installed:

  •         Eth5a is an unsupported 4 port 1G copper SLIC taken from a  dd4200/4500/7200 platform
  •
  •         Slot 8 has an unsupported 8G FC SLIC taken from a  dd4200/4500/7200 platform  (DD9500 platform only supports 16G FC SLIC)
  •
  •         Alert ID p0-9 was generated because Slot 9 for DD9500HA systems must remain empty and it has a SLIC installed.
  •

    -----   ------------------------   --------   ---------------   ------------------   -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Note:

  •         All of the unsupported SLIC configurations send alerts , although the unsupported hardware may still appear to be functional interfaces.
  •
  •         Working I/O cards cannot be removed without causing the system to reboot. New I/O cards can be installed at any time , and will become functional after a system reboot.
  •
  •         Not all unsupported I/O card configurations will illuminate the amber fault LED on the SLIC  (degraded PCI speed does show amber fault LED)
  •
  •
EVT-ENVIRONMENT-00048 : is generated when severity of misconfiguration is Critical and filesystem is disabled.

  •
  •
EVT-ENVIRONMENT-00049 : is a warning alert about a misconfiguration and filesystem is not disabled

Resolution:

Beginning in 5.6 OS , the "enclosure show misconfiguration" command was added to easily pinpoint unsupported hardware configurations in complex environments.

    #enclosure show misconfiguration
