New courses aligned to the Cloud Architect track launched

This document will provide you with information on the launch of the new courses, exams, and certifications aligned to the Cloud Architect (EMCCA) track. It will also provide you information on the retirement of the courses and exams that are currently part of this track. Learn how it impacts you if you are currently taking/planning to take courses aligned to the Cloud Architect track.

Cloud Infrastructure Planning and Design (CIPD) – Specialist Level


EMC Education Services has launched Cloud Infrastructure Planning and Design (CIPD) – a Specialist-level course in the Cloud Architect track. The new CIPD course is aligned to E20-020 Cloud Infrastructure Specialist exam to achieve the EMCCA Version 2 credential.

 

The current Specialist-level course – Virtualized Data Center and Cloud Infrastructure (VDC) Planning and Design and the exam aligned to this course – E20-018 Virtualized Infrastructure Specialist exam – will be retired upon the launch of the new specialty.

 

This document should answer most of the questions you may have about the new training and certification. If you have questions that aren't covered here, please add them in the comments.


1. How does Cloud Infrastructure Planning and Design (CIPD) differ from VDC Planning and Design?
In the VDC Planning and Design course, the focus was on transitioning from physical resources to a virtual and cloud ready environment. The new course focuses on knowledge and skills to successfully design a cloud infrastructure that supports multiple types of services. It helps data center technology professionals develop the skills to design robust cloud-based infrastructure incorporating components such as cloud management, consumer resources, elasticity, metering, hybrid capabilities, and disaster recovery.


2. What are the available CIPD training options?

3. How do I find and register for the CIPD training course?

4. Will the VDC Planning and Design course remain available?

No. The VDC Planning and Design course will be available through December 7, 2015 when the new CIPD course will be launched. After this date, only the new CIPD course will be available.


5. When is the new E20-020 Cloud Infrastructure Specialist exam available?
The E20-020 Cloud Infrastructure Specialist Exam for Cloud Architects will be available at Pearson VUE testing centers worldwide starting January 22, 2016.

6. What credential will be achieved by passing the E20-020 CIPD Exam?
Candidates who pass the E20-020 Cloud Infrastructure Specialist Exam for Cloud Architects will qualify to achieve the Cloud Architect, Cloud Infrastructure Specialist Version 2 credential, provided they have an applicable Associate-level credential. This is also a qualifying prerequisite for achieving the new Version 2 Expert-level certification.

7. What are the qualifying Associate-level credentials to achieve the new Version 2 Specialist certification?
Given below are the various Associate- level credentials that are valid pre-requisites for the new Specialist-level certification:

 

  • Information Storage Associate Version 2
  • Information  Storage Associate Version 3
  • Cloud Infrastructure and Services Associate
  • Cloud  Infrastructure and Services Associate Version 2

 

Note: The Information Storage and Management Version 1 credential is a valid prerequisite for the new Specialist-level certification only if you also hold the Virtualized Infrastructure Specialist credential in addition to the EMCISA Version 1 credential.


8. When will the E20-018 Virtualized Infrastructure Specialist Exam for Cloud Architects be retired?
The E20-018 Virtualized Infrastructure Specialist Exam for Cloud Architects, which is the exam that supports the Virtualized Infrastructure Specialist (EMCCA) certification, will be retired on January 21, 2016.  

9. I’ve already begun preparing for EMCCA certification using VDC Planning and Design. What should I do?

If you have already begun preparing for the E20-018 Virtualized Infrastructure Specialist Exam for Cloud Architects using the VDC Planning and Design training materials, we recommend that you plan to take and pass the exam on or before January 21, 2016. Note that the VDC Planning and Design course does not support the new E20-020 Cloud Infrastructure Specialist exam.

 

However, the E20-018 Virtualized Infrastructure Specialist Exam for Cloud Architects is not a valid Specialist- level prerequisite to achieve the Cloud Architect, Cloud Services Expert Version 2 credential. You must achieve the new Cloud Infrastructure Specialist Version 2 in order to achieve the Version 2 Expert-level credential.

10. I am already a certified EMCCA. Will my credential expire?
No. Once you have achieved EMC Cloud Architect Specialist and/or Expert certification(s), your credential will not expire. As a certified EMC Proven Professional, you will continue to gain access to exclusive program benefits.


11. I am new to the EMC Proven Professional Program. What should I do?
If you are interested in the Cloud Architect track, we recommend that you start with E10-002 Cloud Infrastructure and Services v2 and work towards E20-020 Cloud Infrastructure Specialist followed by E20-920 Cloud Services Expert.

1. How does Cloud Services Planning and Design (CSPD) differ from ITaaS Planning and Design?
In the ITaaS Planning and Design course, the focus was on discussing the ITaaS transformation for the enterprise. The new course focuses on knowledge and skills to successfully design cloud services that support multiple types of workloads, in an existing ITaaS environment. Building on the skills developed  in the Cloud Infrastructure Planning and Design Specialist-level course, it focuses on governance, organizational, financial, and technology aspects as well as the management and operation of cloud services.

Note:
Cloud Architect, Cloud Infrastructure Specialist Version 2 is the only valid  pre-requisite credential to achieve this new Expert-level certification.

7. When will the E20-918 ITaaS Expert Exam for Cloud Architects be retired?
The E20-918 ITaaS Expert Exam for Cloud Architects, which is the exam that supports the Cloud Architect Expert (EMCCA) Version 1 certification, will be retired on January 21, 2016.

8. I’ve already begun preparing for EMCCA certification using ITaaS Planning and Design. What  should I do?
If you have already begun preparing for the E20-918 ITaaS Expert Exam for Cloud Architects using the ITaaS Planning and Design training materials, we recommend that you plan to take and pass the exam on or before January 21, 2016. The IT-as-a-Service Planning and Design course does not support the new E20-920 Cloud Services Expert exam.
