VMware view generates Error fetching vCenter information

Environment:

NetWorker 8.1.x

NetWorker 8.2.x

Virtual Backup Appliance (VBA) 1.0.x

Virtual Backup Appliance (VBA) 1.1.x

Description:

Unable to manage or view virtual machines from the NetWorker Management Console (NMC) VMware view.

The NetWorker VMware Protection integration is configured with the Virtual Backup Appliance (VBA).  The NetWorker Management Console (NMC) VMware view was previously working properly and recently started generating an error while fetching the vCenter information.

The NMC pop-up window shows:

Error fetching vCenter information

vCenter: [VCENTER_SERVER]

Reason(s): Remote process exited with errors

[VCENTER_SERVER]

The NetWorker Server daemon.raw shows:

MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM:SS [NETWORKER_SERVER] nsrdisp_nwbg RAP notice job 'nsrvim' progress message: nsrvim starting on [NETWORKER_SERVER] (process [PROCESS_ID]).

MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM:SS [NETWORKER_SERVER] nsrdisp_nwbg RAP notice job 'nsrvim' progress message: Connecting to NetWorker on '[NETWORKER_SERVER]'.

MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM:SS [NETWORKER_SERVER] nsrdisp_nwbg RAP notice job 'nsrvim' progress message: Querying NSR hypervisor resource '[VCENTER_SERVER]'

MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM:SS [NETWORKER_SERVER] nsrdisp_nwbg RAP notice job 'nsrvim' progress message: Connecting to service at https://[VCENTER_SERVER]/sdk

MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM:SS [NETWORKER_SERVER] nsrdisp_nwbg RAP notice job 'nsrvim' progress message: SOAP FAULT (v1.1) Cannot complete login due to an incorrect user name or password.

MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM:SS [NETWORKER_SERVER] nsrdisp_nwbg RAP notice job 'nsrvim' progress message: nsrvim exiting on [NETWORKER_SERVER] (process [PROCESS_ID]).

Resolution:

This issue usually is caused as the vCenter password was changed in the environment and the NetWorker database (nsrdb) was not updated with the new password.

The "NSR Hypervisor" resource needs to be updated with the nsradmin command line utility.  Here is an overview of the required steps:

  1. Run the nsradmin command line utility from the NetWorker bin directory: nsradmin
  2. Select to show all attributes: show
  3. Select the NSR Hypervisor resources: . type:NSR Hypervisor
  4. Print the NSR Hypervisor resources: print
  5. If there are multiple NSR Hypervisor resources select the appropriate resource: . type:NSR Hypervisor;name:MY_VCENTER_01
  6. Update the password attribute for the selected resource: update password:MY_NEW_PASSWORD
  7. Confirm the update: yes
  8. Exit the nsradmin command line utility: quit

Here is an example of the provided steps:

C:\Program Files\EMC NetWorker\nsr\bin>nsradmin

NetWorker administration program.

Use the "help" command for help.
