VMworld Europe 2014 returns to Barcelona, Spain this year and again takes place at the Fira Barcelona Gran Via. Join other business and technology professionals, and VMware experts and executives as we all come together to share the stories of our successes over the last year, learn from each other and inspire each other to realize greater achievements in virtualization.
Apart from attending all the Keynote Sessions (which are also streamed live online at VMware NOW), I recommend taking in some Hands-On Labs, Expert-Led Workshops and going to the following 5 Oracle-related sessions;
The latest installment of the series of “Oracle on vSphere” panel sessions will focus on the Applications that run Oracle on vSphere. With a focus on Cloud Architectures and therefore the inclusion of these important applications within a broad Software Defined Datacenter approach, customers will elaborate on the particulars of their impressive individual successes.
Wednesday, Oct 15, 1:45 PM - 2:45 PM – Hall 8.0, Room 22
Oracle has been talking a lot about cloud of late. Multitenancy is a highly touted feature of Oracle 12c which (supposedly) enables the creation of a private database cloud. But does it really? OS-level virtualization (such as VMware vSphere) has been hugely popular for creating private database clouds for many relational databases, including Oracle. Will Multitenancy replace OS-level virtualization? Will Oracle take over the consolidation, virtualization, etc., of Oracle databases? In this session we compare and contrast Oracle 12c Multitenancy with OS-level virtualization.
Tuesday, Oct 14, 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM – Hall 8.0, Room 38
Group Discussions are a good way to join together with peers, guided by a VMware expert, and discuss a VMware key topic as selected by the group. Come to this session prepared to dive-in, engage, and share best practices.
Thursday, Oct 16, 2:15 PM - 3:15 PM – Hall 8.0, Room 29
Oracle is able to decrease IT complexity with Complete, Pre-Integrated, and Open solutions delivered from Desk to Disk. Customers can integrate with any layer of our Open-Standard Best-of-Breed technologies based upon their IT architecture strategy. This session will detail our strategy, value and how it integrates with technologies like VMWare.
Wednesday, Oct 15, 11:50 AM - 12:10 PM – SE300
Flash is fast; everyone understands that flash can completely revolutionize your virtual datacenters in ways that weren’t achievable before. This session will discuss, through real customer examples, the following four use cases: Virtual Servers - Are they a good candidate for leveraging an all flash array? Databases - Apart from performance, how else will your Oracle / MS SQL database benefit from the move to an all flash array? EUC using VMware Horizon 6 and Citrix XenDesktop - What were the historical challenges with designing and implementing VDI and streaming applications? Virtualized SAP environments - Can you finally give your developers enough landscapes to work on?
Tuesday, Oct 14, 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM – Hall 8.0, Room 25
Operating large Oracle RAC clusters on vSphere reduces the Data Center footprint, increases agility, efficiency, and scalability to support VMware’s rapid growth. Virtualizing Oracle RAC on vSphere is step closer to Cloud readiness and also simplifies DR solution using VMware Site Recovery Manager. See how VMware IT has successfully migrated their mission critical 13TB Oracle EBS production physical RAC database to a 5 node Oracle RAC running on vSphere 5 with similar hardware and achieved comparable performance.
Tuesday, Oct 14, 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM – Hall 8.0, Room 33
A database is very resource intensive by its very nature and one of the most resource intensive applications you will ever virtualize. This presentation will teach the best practices for Virtualizing Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server databases on VMware. Many of the lessons taught here will apply to any Business Critical Application being virtualized.
Tuesday, Oct 14, 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM – Hall 8.0, Room 22
All the best, and have a great VMworld 2014 in Europe! As I mentioned above, if you're not attending the conference, you can still watch the Keynote Sessions streamed live or replayed online at VMware NOW.
