EMC will once again have a lab in the VMware Hands On Lab at VMworld, the "EMC Infrastructure with the vCloud Suite." It will leverage vCenter Orchestrator, EMC ViPR, Avamar, and Puppet Open Source from Puppet Labs to help connect EMC infrastructure to vCloud Suite.
VMworld will also feature a demo space completely dedicated to EMC technology. Stop by the EMC demo space (booth 235) to test out the latest virtualization advancements from EMC and new offerings such as ViPR and our recently announced data protection products. 1. VMware vSphere Integration with VNX for Efficiency & Performance
This session showcases the VMware vSphere integration with VNX. Participants will use the VSI plugin to view the storage topology, provision storage, and monitor performance directly from the vSphere client. They will use vStorage API for Array Integration (VAAI) to offload functions to the storage array and leverage vStorage API for Storage Awareness (VASA) which adds storage monitoring and visibility in to vCenter. They will also see Unisphere with VM-aware capabilities.
2. Identify and Manage Storage Performance in your Virtualized Environment with Storage Resource Management Suite
The EMC Storage Resource Management Suite - SRM Suite v2.0 Integrated Demo enables you to identify and manage the impact that storage has on the performance and availability of your applications. You can assure storage services through end-to-end analysis--from the application to the virtual guest and down to the storage array.
3. Introduction to EMC Storage Analytics for the VMAX
In this lab you will use the EMC Storage Analytics (ESA) adapter for vCenter Operations Manager to monitor a VMAX array participating in an SRDF relationship. As part of the lab, you will navigate through ESA’s dashboards to: Traverse the storage topology from the array down to the datastore and then reverse the direction to move from the datastore up to the array; Chart performance metrics for various storage components; Explore the VMAX Overview Dashboard i.e. the Heatmap; and Drill down into an SRDF Group replicating in Asynchronous mode.
4. VNX with AppSync: Simple Management, Advanced Protection
AppSync makes it easy to make instant copies of Microsoft applications and databases with VMware environments using advanced technologies like VNX Snapshots and RecoverPoint. In this lab you will learn how easy it is to protect VMware virtualized application data at any granularity using AppSync’s simple interface and it’s SLA-driven (Gold, Silver, Bronze) operational framework.
5. Achieving High Availability in SAP environments using VMware ESXi clusters and VPLEX
This lab explores the basic functionality of VPLEX and managing VPLEX through the Unisphere interface. In addition the user will learn how to use VPLEX Metro in conjunction VMware ESXi cluster nodes to achieve high availability in SAP environments.
6. Accelerate your time-to-value for the Cloud with the VMAX Cloud Edition self-service, enterprise-class cloud storage delivery platform
Explore VMAX Cloud Edition through this 60 minute lab module. You will gain hands on experience provisioning capacity, setting storage service levels, adding capacity and changing service in a clustered VMware environment running vCloud. You will experience how these tasks, that normally take 30 minutes or more by a storage expert, can be done in 5 minutes with just a basic understanding of storage. It’s so quick and easy you’ll have time to explore the multi-tenant cloud attributes of VMAX Cloud Edition.
7. VSPEX Proven Infrastructure for End User Computing enabled by Citrix XenDesktop and VMware vSphere
VSPEX Proven Infrastructures are built with VMware vSphere® the leading virtualization platform together with Citrix XenDesktop software, compute, networking, EMC VNX storage and backup to enable Desktop Transformation. In this lab provision NFS datastores for XenDesktop Personal vDisks from VNX storage with the free vCenter plugin - EMC Virtual Storage Integrator (VSI). Use EMC Unisphere to expand desktop storage pools, provision CIFS storage for end user data and understand how VSPEX can simplify all aspects of Desktop Virtualization.
8. Distributed scalable storage for your VMware virtualized environment with EMC Isilon
This Lab explores the incredibly simplified world of configuring and management EMC Isilon storage systems for use in VMware virtualized environments. In this lab you will expand the capacity and performance of a cluster with a just a few clicks. The lab continues to explore the distributed nature of EMC Isilon as well as how quotas can be used control usage capacity observed from the client, which are commonly used in home directory environments. From there, the lab explores how networking with SmartConnect allows clients to connect to different nodes and how administrators can control those connections. Finally, there is an optional section on working with WORM data on EMC Isilon systems.
9. Virtualize Storage without Compromise with EMC ViPR Software-Defined Storage
With the storage resources virtualized and defined in software, storage administrators are no longer bound by physical storage constraints. They can now present heterogeneous storage environments to users and applications. This vLab will introduce users to EMC ViPR Software-Defined Storage - an open and extensible platform for developing new and innovative data services. In this interactive lab users will use EMC ViPR to centralize all data provisioning and data management tasks to allow applications to access block, file and object data. The user will also monitor and report on software-defined storage performance and capacity in the multi-tenant environment. The user will further use this information to forecast storage utilization to optimize software-defined storage resources across the enterprise.
10. Lightning Fast VM Recovery with EMC Avamar Featuring VM Instant Access
Have you ever wanted to peek into the life of a Backup Administrator and just never had the time? Well now is your chance! In this lab spend a few minutes in the Backup Admin's shoes while you navigate the complex and mountainous world of VMware Backup and Recovery. Leveraging EMC Avamar's newly introduced vSphere WebUI, easily create backup policies, execute backups, and perform lightning fast recoveries without leaving the VMware vSphere Management WebUI. Once complete, celebrate with a pure adrenaline rush of easily saving the day by recovering the business' most critical application VM instantly with our newly introduced Instant Access feature leveraging EMC Protection Storage on EMC Data Domain Systems!
11. Leveraging Fast and Efficient VMware Backup and Recovery Through vSphere with EMC NetWorker
EMC NetWorker currently helps thousands of IT teams around the globe manage their end-to-end enterprise backup needs. In this interactive demo, take a peek into how a Backup Administrator provisions VM Backup Policies, and then see how you as a VM Administrator can take control of backup policy assignment to VMs and execution of backups from within vSphere’s Web Client UI for assuring all your production VMs hosting mission critical applications are protected. Also take Data Recovery into your hands exploring our newly introduced web-portal based Self-Service File Level Recovery workflow, making data recovery painless.
12. Operational and Disaster Recovery using RecoverPoint
This vLab will introduce a user to the new Unisphere for RecoverPoint interface in a three cluster configuration. The user will have the opportunity to protect data both locally and remotely to multiple clusters. While doing so, the user will simulate data corruption and disaster recovery scenarios and recover them to a point-in-time using RecoverPoint. In addition, the user may use VMware Site Recovery Manager to control the failover and failback during the disaster recovery test.
13. 3 Site HA & Disaster Recovery in a distributed VMware vSphere environment using EMC VPLEX Metro and RecoverPoint
This vLab is a demonstration of VPLEX Metro with embedded RecoverPoint splitter technology. The lab is configured with a distributed VMware ESX environment running on VPLEX Metro with a 3rd copy of data replicated using RecoverPoint CRR for disaster recovery to a remote data center. It provides an introduction to creating VPLEX distributed devices and demonstrates continuous availability with VMware vMotion over distance with VPLEX Metro. In addition, operational recovery and disaster recovery using RecoverPoint is demonstrated.
14. RSA Cloud Security and Compliance
The RSA Cloud Security and Compliance Solution enables VMware security-policy implementation and management, security and compliance measurement, issue remediation, and reporting. The solution is built on the RSA Archer eGRC Platform to help organizations rationalize compliance requirements, controls, standards, and best practices into centralized security policies administered consistently across virtual and physical infrastructures. The user will explore deployment work queues and open findings, as well as compliance for PCI/VMware and devices. The user will also gain an understanding of the control procedures graph, compliance chart and the compliance and security dashboard.
15. Manage virtualized and cloud environments with EMC Service Assurance Suite
This vLab will introduce a user to EMC Service Assurance Suite for Management of Virtualized Datacenters. With this solution user will analyze infrastructure management information—availability, performance, and configurations— and enable service assurance by quickly identifying root causes and risk conditions, and resolve issues before business impact and SLA violations occur.
16. VNX/VNXe Storage Monitoring & Analytics For Your Business
This lab will demonstrate how Unisphere Remote, VNX Monitoring and Reporting, and EMC Storage Analytics for VNX can be leveraged in customers’ VMware environments. To ensure that virtual machines (VMs) are always accessible, it is critical to monitor the storage in which the VMs reside or utilize. If an issue occurs, administrators must be notified immediately so to prevent inaccessibility of these VMs to their end users. In this lab, participants will evaluate three monitoring products along with their respective features, and determine the best-fit solution for their VMware environments. Participants will be adding storage systems, navigating and customizing the dashboards, and exploring in detail storage systems for each of the monitoring products.
