Redhat 6.2 PowerPath 5.7 pseudo names change after reboot.

Product:

CLARiiON CX4 Series, Powerpath 5.7 SP1

Description:

Powerpath 5.7 SP1 pseudo names change after reboot.

After reboot, 20 out of 28 pseudo names changes on the host. The user tried renaming the pseudonames and running powermt save but they changed again after the next reboot.

Resolution:

In this instance runing emcp_cleanup to remove all saved configuration files resolved the issue.

Steps to resolve the issue:

  1. 1. Uninstall PowerPath.
    2. Run emcp_cleanup command to remove saved configuration files including files containing mapping information.
    3. Install PowerPath 5.7.1.
    4. Apply licenses.
    5. Start PowerPath.
    6. Check whether the issue is seen across reboot.

If the problem still persists even after cleanup, use the procedure below to collect more information for EMC Support:

  1. 1. After installing PowerPath, move /etc/init.d/PowerPath script to another location so that PowerPath is not started across reboot.
    # mv /etc/init.d/PowerPath /root/PowerPath
    2. Run PowerPath startup script with -x option manually
    # sh -x /root/PowerPath start
    3. After PowerPath service is started, provide the following information:
    a. "sh -x /root/PowerPath start" output
    b. "powermt display dev=all" output
    c. /etc/emcp_devicesDB.dat, /etc/emcp_devicesDB.idx and /etc/*.FCS files
    4. Reboot the system.
    5. Run again PowerPath startup script with -x option manually (Note PowerPath will not be started across reboot since we have moved /etc/init.d/PowerPath script).
    # sh -x /root/PowerPath start
    6. After PowerPath service is started, provide the following information:
    a. "sh -x /root/PowerPath start" output
    b. "powermt display dev=all" output
    c. /etc/emcp_devicesDB.dat, /etc/emcp_devicesDB.idx and /etc/*.FCS files
