Description:

Best practices for trespassing LUNs on CLARiiON connected to AIX hosts

Symptom:

  • Manual trespass of CLARiiON LUNs using the  Navisphere Manager causes disk operation errors and may interrupt I/O for up to 5 minutes.
  • Manual trespass of CLARiiON LUNs using the  Navisphere GUI may cause host to hang for up to 5 minutes.

Resolution:

To avoid disk errors in errpt and I/O interruption, it is best to use the following procedure to move LUNs on the CLARiiON array rather than using a manual trespass:

  1. Use Navisphere to select the default SP for each LUN that you want to move and apply the setting.
  2. Then on each host attached to these LUNs issue a powermt restore command.  This will result in the LUNs being moved to their new default SP without disk operation errors or significant interruption to host I/O.
