Steps to configure MirrorView between CLARiiON and VNX systems running VNX OE for Block 05.31.000.5.0xx.

Product:

VNX Series

Description:

Configuring MirrorView between CLARiiON and VNX systems running VNX OE for Block 05.31.000.5.0xx.

Resolution:

The initial release of VNX OE Unisphere only allows 1 VNX system to be managed at a time, and does not support legacy systems.  MirrorView (both MV/S and MV/A) between a VNX and CX4, CX3, AX4F-5 is supported, but naviseccli must be used to establish the connections. CX series systems are NOT supported with VNX system running VNX OE for Block 05.31.000.5.0xx.The supported versions are given below:

  • CX4 series storage systems running FLARE Release 29 or Release 30
  • CX3 series storage systems running FLARE Release 26
  • AX4-5F storage systems running version FLARE Release 23

The following shows how to create and enable MirrorView connections between two VNX arrays or between a VNX and a CX3 running Release 26 (latest patch level)/CX4 running Release 29/Release 30 /AX4 running Release 23.

iSCSI connection

On array1 (array uid 123) (SPA IP 1.2.3.4)

naviseccli –h 1.2.3.4 - user < > -password < > -scope 0 connection –addset -name mv_iscsi_connection_to_456

naviseccli –h 1.2.3.4 - user < > -password < > -scope 0 connection –addpath –name mv_iscsi_connection_to_456 –target <MirrorView iSCSI port IP address on target SP-a> –sp a –portid < MV ISCSI port ID on 123 array’s SPA>

naviseccli –h 1.2.3.4 - user < > -password < > -scope 0 connection –addpath –name mv_iscsi_connection_to_456 –target <MirrorView iSCSI port IP address on target SP-b> –sp b –portid < MV ISCSI port ID on 123 array’s SPB>

On array 2 (array uid 456)(SPA IP 5.6.7.8)

naviseccli –h 5.6.7.8 - user < > -password < > -scope 0 connection –addset -name mv_iscsi_connection_to_123

naviseccli –h 5.6.7.8 - user < > -password < > -scope 0 connection –addpath –name mv_iscsi_connection_to_123 –target <MirrorView iSCSI port IP address on target SP-a> –sp a –portid < MV ISCSI port ID on 456 array’s SPA>

naviseccli –h 5.6.7.8 - user < > -password < > -scope 0 connection –addpath –name mv_iscsi_connection_to_123 –target <MirrorView iSCSI port IP address on target SP-b> –sp b –portid < MV ISCSI port ID on 456 array’s SPB>

Run the following command to see the new connection:

naviseccli –h 1.2.3.4 - user < > -password < > -scope 0 connection –getset

Run the following command to enable mirroring between the arrays using the connection sets:

naviseccli –h 1.2.3.4 -user … -password … -scope … mirror –enablepath <remote-array-SP IP> -connectiontype iscsi

FC connection

FC does not require the creation of the connection sets.   If the FC MirrorView connections are correctly zoned together, they show up automatically, and you can go directly to the following command:

naviseccli –h 1.2.3.4 -user … -password … -scope … mirror –enablepath <remote-array-SP IP> -connectiontype fibre
