We are really excited to announce the availability of AppSync 3.0. Here is what's new:

  • VPLEX support with XtremIO :
    • For applications consuming VPLEX Virtual Volumes, AppSync creates XVC copies on the underlying XtremIO array, and allows to consume them either natively or as a VPLEX Virtual Volume. VPLEX Local and Metro topologies are supported (R0, R1, DR1)
    • AppSync management of RecoverPoint bookmarks for VPLEX devices is not yet supported, however RecoverPoint protection is allowed on the same LUNS

  • Unity support:
    • Unity Block & Unity File are supported with all AppSync supported applications.
    • Service Plans supported:
      • Block Storage: Bronze (Local) with Unified Snap or RecoverPoint; Silver and Gold  with RecoverPoint
      • File Storage: Bronze (Local) Plan with Unified Snaps.
    • The Database Repurpose Wizard (Oracle, SQL) is not supported for Unity at this time.

  • Licensing enhancements:
    • Starter Bundle license support - This license enables all the features of AppSync on a single Unity, VMAX AF, or XtremIO array with some restrictions
    • DPS Platinum suite license - Allows AppSync to support any type of array configured in AppSync with no limitation on the amount of storage from each array.
  • SQL enhancements:
    • SQL Non VDI backup support - Enhanced the SQL Server backup type to include support for Non VDI. You can now create and manage copies of SQL using just VSS freeze/thaw framework.
    • Clustered SQL support - Supports mounting Microsoft SQL database copy to an alternate Microsoft SQL cluster as a clustered resource.
  • Repurposing enhancements:
    • Enhanced scheduling ability to repurpose and refresh a copy, including ability to schedule repurposing jobs for 2nd generation copies.
    • Ability to view and edit the values of various fields in the repurpose workflow.
    • Centralized view of all database repurposed copies
  • VMAX2 enhancements:
    • FAST VP Policy - Allows you to select the desired FAST VP policy for the target LUN in the mount phase of the service plan.
    • Configure storage pools - Allows you to configure the storage pools to create VMAX V2 copy devices for the service plan.
  • Serviceability enhancements:
    • Exchange consistency check improvement - You can now perform consistency check only on the log files of an Exchange database copy in a DAG environment.
    • Configure virtual machine snapshots for virtual machines - Allows you to create virtual machine snapshots for only the selected virtual machine in a service plan.
    • Unmount callout script - Appsync now provides a scripting opportunity during the Unmount previous copy and Unmount copy phases.
