Doug Fierro, Senior Director, Hardware Engineering, Connectrix, EMC Corporation

Is bigger better? Sometimes…Especially if there is a struggle to support growing applications while fighting for every square inch of available space.

Is better bigger? Sometimes…Especially if you want the latest technology that will grow with the business, and give flexibility for years to come.

With trusted performance, rock-solid reliability, an awesome management environment, simplified architecture and improved TCO, well, that’s a win…win…win…win…win.

And that’s why EMC, with our long-term partner Cisco, is introducing the Connectrix MDS-9718 high-density, high performance Director. We have many customers who have asked for even more density for their Fibre Channel SAN infrastructure, so they can simplify their network architecture, squeeze more value out of every inch of their Data Center, and be ready for years of innovation.

The Connectrix MDS-9718 does all that. It joins a growing family of rock-solid systems that gives extensive choice for supporting the most critical applications. With support for Fibre Channel, FCoE, FICON and FCiP, the Connectrix MDS family provides flexibility to design your storage network to meet a broad list of needs, big and small; open systems and mainframe; local and remote storage; hybrid and flash arrays.

Remember to modernize the Network as you modernize your Storage…

EMC’s extensive options for storage all require the best storage network to drive high bandwidth, always-on infrastructure. When designing the Data Center around VMAX3, VNX, XtremIO and other EMC storage platforms, remember that the storage network provides the pathways to connect these world-class arrays to your business applications. Think of it as the Data Center circulatory system. Keeping it fresh and healthy will pay dividends for years to come.

The new Connectrix MDS-9718, planned for release as early as April, will provide more options for creating highly available, scalable and feature rich, end-to-end storage networks. Our customers continue to depend on Fibre Channel as an important element of high performance, reliable and easy to manage storage environments, and the new MDS system fits well into our expanding portfolio.

Build the most scalable and mission critical applications, and trust that EMC storage and EMC Connectrix will give you everything necessary to meet the needs of the most demanding environment.

VSPEX is not VSPEX without two key things: 1) EMC’s technology alliance partners and 2) EMC’s channel partners.  The first because VSPEX doesn’t exist without servers, networking and hypervisors, which EMC doesn't make.  The second because VSPEX is a channel-only solution – it’s our channel partners that take VSPEX to customers.

Our technology is always evolving to become higher performing and more efficient.  Two recent announcements – EMC’s announcement of Next-Generation VNX, and Cisco’s announcement of support for the new Intel Xeon Processor E5-2600 v2 product family – put us back in the lab developing designs that pack the power and performance of EMC’s new VNX storage and Cisco’s new UCS servers into a VSPEX.

Today, we’re announcing the results of that lab work, through two new Cisco Validated Designs.

Together these 2 new CVDs cover 6 different VSPEX configurations and enable partners to deliver brand new Next-Generation VNX from EMC, and the latest Intel® Xeon®-powered Cisco UCS models in a simple, efficient and flexible VSPEX solution. The goodness doesn’t end there.  EMC and Cisco have teamed up to offer guidance on deploying specific applications on VSPEX – in this case SharePoint 2013 on Microsoft Fast Track 3.0. And as if application-specific guidance wasn’t enough, we recently completed a VSPEX Labs Validated solution that detailsdeploying Cisco UCS Director to manage VSPEX Proven Infrastructure.  This new implementation guide provides step by step instructions on how to setup, configure and operate VSPEX via Cisco UCS Director.Since the launch of VSPEX, EMC and Cisco have worked together by:

  • Enabling over 850 EMC and Cisco-certified channel partners to sell VSPEX solutions all over the globe.
  • Developing  Cisco Validated Designs covering several configurations making it lower-risk, fast and simple for partners to deploy VSPEX with Cisco technology.
  • Making VSPEX stacks built with EMC and Cisco technology available for channel partners to test their flavor of VSPEX via VSPEX Labs.

Our joint efforts with Cisco to date have netted great results for partners and their customers.  You can learn about some of those results by visiting our VSPEX Interactive Infographic.
